The Maintenance and Repair of a Digital Caliper course provides a detailed walkthrough on maintaining and repairing a Mitutoyo 500-196-30 Digimatic Caliper. Designed for technicians with little to no repair experience. Review a routine cleaning, advanced troubleshooting, component replacement, and when a technician can repair damaged jaws. A list of recommended materials is provided for maintaining and repairing the tool.

The following topics are covered in this course:

Level 1) A lightly intrusive level. Learn how to properly clean, inspect, and perform a visual parallelism inspection on a Mitutoyo Digital Caliper. This routine cleaning method is recommended for regular use and before returning to storage.

Level 2) Moderately intrusive; teardown and rebuild. Learn how to clean and adjust the gib, to improve the sliding motion of a caliper. Review the recommended way to disassemble, clean, and reassemble a caliper.

Level 3) Diagnosing issues; troubleshooting. Identify common issues that occur with the digital calipers. Understand what problems can be repaired by the technician, which require part replacement, or professional repair by Mitutoyo.

Level 4) Replacing components; ordering new parts. Learn how to access and search Mitutoyo’s parts lists. Learn how to identify part numbers, determine which parts can be ordered individually, which parts need to be ordered as a set and what cannot be ordered for replacement.

Level 5) Repairing jaws. Learn how to remove burrs and small scratches from outside diameter (OD) jaws and make adjustments if there are observed gaps.  View examples of when a technician can lap the jaws versus when to contact Mitutoyo for assistance.

A certificate of completion will be awarded to the end-user for completing the course.

Learn how to calibrate Mitutoyo Calipers by completing the interactive eLearning course: EDU-K210: Calibration of Calipers. The calibration methods taught in this course follow the practices outlined in the American National Standard, ASME B89.1.14, and demonstrates techniques using a 0-6 inch (0-150mm) caliper.
