One of the greatest challenges instructors have is affectively assessing student learning and skill mastery. Based on feedback from educators around the country, Mitutoyo created a micro-certification program on the most common measurement hand tools, starting with the caliper. There are two assessments and corresponding micro-certificates available. These assessments are based on free available resources that can be inserted into the school curriculum as deemed appropriate by the classroom instructor. The result is that students can earn official micro-certificates from Mitutoyo America.

Level One Theory Exam:

This online exam is divided into three categories: Caliper Fundamentals, Caliper Best Practices, and Reading a Caliper. All questions are sourced from freely available Mitutoyo material and have been extensively vetted. Question types include: matching, multiple choice, true/false, and image review.

Level Two Practical Exam:

A hands-on practical exam conducted with an official Mitutoyo Micro-Certification Kit. The kit, calibrated and maintained by our world-class calibration laboratory, serves as a proficiency test designed to evaluate participants’ measurement skills using all four measurement faces. Each test kit includes Mitutoyo digital calipers and a selection of practice standards and testing artifacts.

Eligibility Criteria:

These exams are open to everyone, regardless of age, educational background, memberships, or professional experience.

Cost:

Mitutoyo recognizes the financial constraints of educational institutions. For that reason, testing costs are kept to a minimum and priced to unique institutional needs. Level 1 and 2 Exams can be purchased separately or bundled for a discount. Exam costs are based on the number of licenses purchased. Institutions are responsible for the shipping costs of the testing kits and for providing consumables, such as alcohol, gloves and lint free cloths.
