Course Materials:
In this eLearning Course, users will be introduced to the Mitutoyo’s Gage Block Comparator. Learn about the basic functionality of the Gage Block Comparatorthrough a detailed software overview; starting with interface layout – all the way to creating part programs. New users can learn how to get up and running with the Gage Block Comparator, while experienced users can expand their expertise.

The following topics are covered in this course:

1) Navigating the Software Interface
Users will be introduced to Mitutoyo’s Gage Block Comparator Software User Interface, starting with the navigation menus and detailing the different startup procedures for the gage. Users will see a detailed walk through of the GBC software, while learning how to prepare measurements within the measurement menu. Learn about the different Settings menu’s that users will need to navigate and set prior to any measurements or gage use. Finally, learn how to apply and input nominal, serial number, and tolerances for various measurements.

2) Calibrating Masters
Calibration procedures are extremely important for accuracy; in this section users will receive extensive training on how to prepare the Gage Block Comparator for use. Beginning with the Maintenance tab, users will understand the importance of Grand Masters, their connection to NIST, and how they are utilized within the GBC Measuring System. Learn the differences between the Calibration Blocks within the Calibration Set – and how to apply them within your calibration procedures. Walk through the entire Calibration Process with detailed steps, instructions, and explanations with the GBC.

3) Cleaning Unit
A clean workspace is important for repeatability – and when dealing with the Gage Block Comparator, users will want a well-maintained Gage Block Comparator. Users will receive extensive training on how to prepare the stage and probe for cleaning, removing debris such as dirt, oil, or dust from the work stage. Proper care and procedures are important; cleaning with improper tools or utensils can damage your unit. Follow along to learn what is the best way to keep your measuring unit in pristine condition.

4) Tabulate Standards
Users will receive a detailed walkthrough on the difference between tabulating standards and tabulating instrumental error. Users will be able to identify how to select the correct standard from the dropdown menu as well as updating the Block Grade before inputting the requested information, starting with nominals and ending with tolerances.

5) Performing Measurements
Once users have completed the above sections, measurements can now be safely recorded. Users will learn about the entire measuring procedure; starting with the pre-measuring procedures and introducing the Soaking Plate. Learn about the importance of the Soaking Plate, and how it can influence your measurements. A walkthrough on how to set a machine origin, properly load your parts and square/rectangle block holders, as well as how to input information to the software as you begin your measurements. In this section, users will see successful measurements, and what to change if a Master Measurement Error appears during the measuring procedure.

6) Create Reports
After taking your measurements, outputting data is the next important step. Users will see how easy setting up a data report is following the conclusion of a measurement procedure. Mitutoyo offers certifications within the GBC that you can format your data to match and output; giving end-users access to custom pre-designed certification forms at your leisure to export.

7) GBC Proficiency Exam
A certificate of completion will be awarded to the end-user for passing the proficiency exam following the conclusion of the course. Users have unlimited attempts at the exam.
