Change your uncertainty, change your calibration world. When testing measuring instruments in calibration, and assessing conformity to specification (pass/fail statements), handling the impact of uncertainty in decision rules can be a challenging problem. In this novel class, the internationally standardized concept of test uncertainty will be explored (with a focus on dimensional calibrations). Powerful concepts from ISO 14253-5:2015 and ASME B89.7.6-2019 have exposed weaknesses in common approaches to measurement uncertainty, and this class will show you how to implement the ideas in those standards. There are no complicated mathematics in this class, but students should have prior background in evaluating measurement uncertainty in the calibration of measuring instruments.

Included with this eLearning class is a free PDF download of the book “Test Uncertainty: Guide to the evaluation of measurement uncertainty in the conformity assessment of measuring instruments” written by Mitutoyo America’s own Dr. Jim Salsbury. This eLearning class was developed and narrated by Dr. Salsbury to support the implementation of the concepts in the book. Dr. Salsbury had a front row seat in the standards committees working on the principles of test uncertainty since the early 2000’s, and he brings that experience and history to this eLearning course and the accompanying book.
