Common Mistakes in Dimensional Calibration Methods

Description: Mitutoyo America Corporation has a long history of providing world-class calibration services as well as premier educational instruction in calibration methods and techniques. This presentation is based on some of the key issues that have been observed in our popular Hands-On Gage Calibration course over the years. Calibration is all about maintaining quality and establishing traceability for measuring equipment. To achieve these goals, calibration must be a well-engineered search for errors. Economic realities limit the amount of time and testing in calibration, and therefore methods must be chosen wisely to provide the most information with the least amount of work. CMM-GD&T Measurement Planning

Description: This presentation has been delivered at a number of national and international events, and based on the positive response received, Mitutoyo America Corporation wanted to make it more widely available. Many users of coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) struggle with the measurement of workpieces toleranced in accordance with ASME Y14.5 (GD&T). There is no measurement method dictated by ASME Y14.5, as this standard is for defining product requirements and is not a measurement compliance standard. Users of CMMs must consider a number of business and technical factors when planning a measurement method. This presentation introduces the topic of measurement planning and highlights the American national standard on Dimensional Measurement Planning, ASME B89.7.2. Testing CMMs and the ISO 10360 standards

Description: This technical presentation provides an overview of the specifications used to describe the accuracy of coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) along with the methods and tools used to calibrate CMMs in the field. The national and international standards used by all CMM manufacturers, including the ISO 10360 series, will be discussed. The history and purpose of standardized testing will also be briefly reviewed to provide understanding on how the calibration of CMMs differs from other measuring equipment. Testing vision CMMs and ISO 10360-7

Description: ISO 10360-7:2011 is the first international standard to address the calibration and testing of non-contacting coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) equipped with any type of imaging probing system, such as video or vision measuring instruments. This technical presentation provides an overview of this standard along with some insight into the options available in the standard.
